Ultra Swank - Retro Adventures

A wonderful new world of Fords – Car Adverts from 1960

Written by Christopher Alm • October 16th, 2008

Enjoy this fun and swanky Ford commercial from 1960 linking new compact cars to futurism and the space frontier. They don’t make commercials like this anymore, do they?

If you like this, there is a ton of more of old commericals and archive footage to be found in the Prelinger Archives at the ever so great archive.org website.

Anne and Charles LOVE their Fords. We have a 1963 Thunderbird, a 2005 Mustang GT, and a 2009 Flex. Anne previously drove a 1963 Falcon wagon that she made out with Charles in when they were dating. RAWR!

You delightful Swede, your trip to Bakersfield is LONG overdue.

Lucky you! I wish I had a 1963 Thunderbird or any 1960s car. I would have it parked on the driveway of my mid century southern California house of course! :D

Yes my trip is long overdue, but I hope that our paths cross someday soon. I need to go to California and check out the remaining leftovers of cool design from the 50s and 60s.

Awesome advertising. I had a 1962 Falcon Futura…the lines are basically the same, but I had a 2 door. White also…what a trio of cars.

Also, I just got back from a trip to Southern California. I ate at the Bobs Big Boy restaraunt in Burbank. I had the BLT (Bacon Lettuce Tomato). On weekends you can actually drive in, and get served via roller skates. (= Although I did not get to do that, we had a great time. I am still looking to walk off my Chocolate milkshake.

    Thanks for the awesome site.

Wow! What a commercial. That is so awesome. I’ve got some friends and relatives with some 60’s Fords. I love them. Ford made so many cool cars back then.

Ahh, the Ford Futura, not a car to remember.

Mustang had some great commercials for ’68 – only Mustang make life great.

My grandfather lived in Dearborn. HIS Ford came from Dagenham and was way cooler than most of the Dearborn Fords.

Not forgetting the Plymouth Baccaruda 1966! Whops I mean Barracuda, remember? Say Ba-ba-ra-ca-da-du-du-da-da? And you got your self a hit record! =)

This commercial reminded me of the stockholder booklets my grandmother used to get from Ford. They usually had drawings or pictures of Ford’s newest or experimental cars shown at the Ford Pavillions at various World’s Fairs or big auto shows. I was so fascinated she gave me many of them but unfortunately, over the years, they disappeared.
