Fly me Friendly

The luscious collaboration with British lifestyle magazine Chic Today proceeds. Here is the fourth article by me, it is lovingly called Fly me friendly and continues my fascination of air travel and stewardesses in its golden age. The article can be found in their magazine available in a interactive form or as downloadable PDF-file (links below). But as of this issue all of the editorials will also be presented as posts through their website. Chic Today is totally free and features interesting articles about fashion, design and lifestyle elements for all of you who enjoy the more chic things in life.

Nice job, Chris. You’ve done more to glamorize the late sixties-early seventies than most anyone out there in internet land.

I’ve recently come to see the era in which I was born in an entirely different light. The “lounge” era didn’t end as I thought it did, in the mid 1960s, but actually continued to thrive up to the mid-1970s and air travel was still special. Now excuse me, I have to give “Love at First Flight” another listen!

    Oh, and great photos!

Hello, I find that hard to believe but thanks anyways for your kind words! Hope you are enjoying your first class trip back in time! :)

Great article Chris! I remember going to LAX with my grandparents in the late 1960s to see the jetset people. Going to an airport was an event. People were excited to fly. It most decidedly was NOT the airborne bus mentality of today. I even remember the pilots and the stewardesses of a flight arriving together. Trivia question: when were “boys” allowed to be flight attendants. These days there are so many fifty-something stewardesses in menopause and mean kweenz that roll their eyes and exhale that you feel obligated to lavish praise on them for the microscopic bag of salted peanuts for fear of bodily injury if you don’t.

That was wonderful. You did a fantastic job with it. I really enjoyed it. The article took me back to that era. Thanks for sharing that with us. Cheers!

Very nice article i had a look in the magazine and is bad that the magazine Chic today is not at the same level. But thanks for sharing.
    Cheers.

@Michael Thank you! Chic Today is a lifestyle magazine mostly aimed towards women so that’s why you probably don’t appreciate the rest of the content the same way. I am sure your wife or finance will though!
