I flew on Braniff from Panama to NY, stopover in MIA in 1964 and 66. Even the food was good... when you fly today you can't believe it's become so casual and it's a good thing but it is too bad you can't choose flight experiences deluxe or regular. Those memories are part of who I am, they were emblematic of the new world i.e., mod and international!

I'm a Braniff brat. Dad and his co-workers got paid double time to paint planes after working their regular jobs. Braniff had a big unveiling of it's "end of the plane plane" advertising scheme, with a big family dinner and tours. I had hoped to work for Braniff too, but they went under in 1981. The reasons: they expanded too quickly, the top brass had huge benefits (until just a few years ago, what remained of the company was still paying for resort condos for the brass), and dear old American airlines had the Sabre system which was placed with travel agents and rigged to have American as the first choice for ticketing.
It was an amazing airline, with quality everything. We still have a few Braniff stuff from flights. As employees, we often flew first class (not many people would pay for it even then) since we flew "space available." I didn't fly again for years and my first flight was on Southwest airlines...It felt like I was flying on a bus in a third world country...expected to have chickens and such running around.
Still have some of Dad's wings, they are treasured.
