Forget the Movie, Watch the Opening Titles

Written by Chris Alm • March 23rd, 2012

Sometimes, the opening titles for a movie are far more a work of art than the movie itself. It might seem like a simple task to present the director, producer(s), actors and the production crew in a defined container. But think about it. In a time frame of usually only a few minutes, not only do you have to make sure that the right people get presented in a favorable way but you also have to set the entire theme and mood for the movie.

Legendary designers such as Saul Bass and Maurice Binder have created countless of memorable opening titles for classic movies with the help of very talented composers such as Henry Mancini, Bernard Herrmann and John Barry.

Below are some of my favorites. Which is your favorite opening sequence of all time?
